The following workshops are offered on a rotating and “as requested” basis. Daytime, evening and weekend sessions are available. Please contact us for specific dates and times or for additional information on any of the workshop topics listed below.
ADD/ADHD AND YOUR CHILD
Explore how ADD/ADHD affects your child’s ability to learn and can impact his/her social and emotional functioning at school and home. Learn specific tools and techniques that will improve your child’s ability to incorporate new information, successfully complete tasks and cope with the challenges he/she faces with family members, peers, teachers and other adults.
PROBLEMS AT SCHOOL: BULLYING, PEER CONFLICTS AND SOCIAL ISOLATION.
For some children, school is a very stressful and unhappy place; yet it is where all children spend the majority of their day. Social difficulties are one of the key struggles reported by children, but often there is little or no support available to help them when these situations arise. This training will provide parents with methods to support children who are bullied or isolated at school, as well as parents of children who bully others. Most importantly, it will give parents strategies to teach their children how to handle these difficult situations in the moment when they occur.
HELPING YOUR CHILD UNDERSTAND AND COPE WITH DEATH
Loss of a loved one is difficult at all ages. How children understand and cope with death depends a great deal on their age and the information/support they are given. This workshop will present a developmental approach to the bereavement process and will give you techniques and methods to help your entire family through this difficult time.
BEING AN EFFECTIVE PARENT--- DECREASING BATTLES, INCREASING COMMUNICATION AND RAISING RESPONSIBLE CHILDREN
This workshop will focus on parenting strategies to alleviate power struggles with your children and teach parents ways of communicating that will produce results, while simultaneously increasing your child's awareness, accountability and self-esteem. This training will provide a developmental approach to parenting, focusing on techniques for children between 3 and 12 years of age, but applicable for children of all ages.
PARENTING THE ADOLESCENT—SURVIVING THE CHALLENGES AND PROMOTING HEALTHY TRANSITIONS
In the best of situations and within the most supportive of family environments, pre-teen and teen years are often the most difficult for all family members to experience. This workshop will provide a foundation for understanding why change occurs so drastically during adolescence and how parents can help all family members during this tumultuous time. These skills will assist parents in regaining control of their own lives, increasing family unity and helping their children move more smoothly into adulthood.
